I read it before diving into this and the Black Hornet is portrayed as a force to be reckoned with, in this however he's more of a manchild who is prone to tantrums. What bothered me the most about this was how it links up with the prequel series, Kato: Not My Father's Daughter. I loved Phil's take on the Hornet it was serious and got so many things right, like Kato and the Hornet working side by side as a team. Each have their own writing style, Kevin opts for a more humour approach which can be quite funny but it does sometimes detract serious tones the story is trying to deal with.

Of course every Green Hornet needs a Kato and in this you get Mulan, who has also taken up her fathers legacy.Įven though this is marketed as Kevin Smith's Green Hornet, he only writes the first 10 issues, the rest is by Phil Hester. This is about Brett Reid Jr taking up the mantle of Green Hornet, after the Black Hornet tries to ruin his fathers legacy. I believe this is the first comic Green Hornet comic that Dynamite put out, which is surprising as this is soaked with love for the good old days. Thoroughly enjoyable, I read this in one sitting.
